2nd Cycle of the Emirates Appreciation Award launched
The Zayed International Foundation for the Environment in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Water has launched the 2nd cycle of the Emirates Appreciation Award for the Environment, which is aimed at ensuring solutions for environmental issues.
In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE Minister of Environment and Water, H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad bin Fahd, in collaboration with the Higher Committee of the Zayed International Prize for the Environment, launched the 2nd cycle of the Emirates Appreciation Award for the Environment on 21st June, 2014.
This announcement was made at a press conference held at the Dubai Police Academy, where H.E. Dr. Rashid bin Fahd extended thanks and appreciation to the Ruler of Dubai for his constant support to the efforts of the Ministry and the role of ZayedInternational Foundation for the Environment in this regard.
The ceremony was also attended by members of Foundation’s Higher Committee and representatives of industrial, educational, media institutions, in addition to a number of local government department representatives.
Addressing the press conference, Dr. Rashid said that the Emirates Appreciation Award for the Environment was established under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to stimulate and appreciate the pioneering national initiatives and best practices aimed at protecting environment and achieving the sustainable development in the U.A.E.
He added that the award had achieved an amazing success in its 1st edition and honored elite personalities and organizations who participated successfully in the national environmental work in the U.A.E., which included Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai.
Dr. Rashid also pointed out that the U.A.E. has attained great achievements and promoted its international stature through its strong commitment to environmental issues locally and internationally, aswell as translating its commitment into strategies, plans and developed working programmes.
He also reiterated the importance of the Award and its role in encouraging and supporting environmental works, national individual and group initiatives, in addition to stimulating institutions to seek excellence and innovation in order to ensure solutions for environmental issues to consolidate the concept of sustainable development.
Inviting nominations for the second cycle of the Emirates Appreciation Award for the Environment across the emirates, the Higher Committee of the Zayed International Prize for the Environment has also announced that 18th December 2014 would be the deadline for receiving nominations for the Second Cycle.
