Zayed International Foundation for the Environment and UNEP launch the first edition of Dubai First International Forum on Sustainable Lifestyle
Dubai , 19 February, 2015 – Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, the Minister of Environment and Water, United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment will host the “1st Dubai International Forum on Sustainable Lifestyles”, one of the biggest events of its kind in the region, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on the 25th-26th of February in Gloria Hotel, Dubai.
The 1st Dubai International Forum on Sustainable Lifestyles will attract dozens of key policy makers, international experts, and business leaders, representatives of civil society and academia to address one of the most important challenges of our time: “how can we move to sustainable lifestyles in the future? “
Generating collective global impact integral in the transition towards global sustainable lifestyles, the forum will be the first major event on sustainable lifestyles and one of the first opportunities for governments and other stakeholders to rethink the ways they design, produce, and consume to enable people around the world to move towards a society where generations must live within the boundaries of our planet.
Through this special event, Zayed International Foundation for the Environment and the UNEP aim to draw up a roadmap that will help provide knowledge and skills and enable communities to become actors of change striving towards more sustainable lifestyles.
Creating sustainable lifestyle will not be possible without the active participation of policy makers, Business leaders and Consumers. Therefore, the forum will focus on the different sustainable lifestyle scenarios including the key role of the different actors in rallying support behind market solutions that are more sustainable - economically, socially, and environmentally.
The purpose of the forum is also to find new and less impactful ways to develop and offer the goods and services to meet people’s needs and provide an inspirational space for dialogue on how to identify, harmonize and mainstream the efforts globally.
The topics discussed at this forum and the conclusions drawn will provide a useful framework with which participants will take to their respective countries and adapt to their particular contexts and will contribute to the global context. The outcomes of “Dubai 1st Forum on Sustainable Lifestyle” will also feed into the global 10 Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) Steering Committee meeting, to be held in Japan in March 2015.
Note to Editors
The Forum is organized under the long term partnership between Zayed International Foundation for the Environment and the UNEP, with technical support from the Secretariat for the global 10 Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP).
