Zayed Foundation heeds HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid's call to celebrate memory of late Sheikh Zayed launches 'Zayed Green Challenge smart platform' at UNEA 3
Heeding the nation-wide call of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to reinforce the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed in the hearts and minds of the people of the UAE, the Zayed Foundation launched the ‘Zayed Green Challenge smart platform’ in appreciation of the Founding Father’s legacy in environment and sustainable development as the UAE celebrates the ‘Year of Zayed’ in 2018.
In a recent message issued by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, he invited the nation to deliver a message to the world in 2018 that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, is present and will remain forever in the heart and mind of everyone in the UAE.
The Zayed International Foundation for the Environment heeded this call when it announced the launch of the ‘Zayed Green Challenge smart platform’ in appreciation of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s legacy in environment and sustainable development that has since laid the foundations for the green future of the UAE. The year 2018 will mark 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed, the Founding Father of the UAE, whose visionary leadership set the course to UAE’s growth and modern development. UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced 2018 as the ‘Year of Zayed’ to commemorate the legacy of this great visionary leader who passed away in 2004.
The launch of ‘Zayed Green Challenge smart platform’, an innovative knowledge smart platform on 6th December, 2017, was held in tandem with the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA3) in Nairobi, Kenya, further propelling the international stature of the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment as a progressive force in the environmental field. As a leading global environmental organisation, the Zayed Foundation has significantly enhanced its international representation by launching the Zayed Green Challenge at the UN Environment Assembly, the world’s highest-level decision making body on the environment. With a universal membership of all 193 UN Member States, the UN Environment Assembly provides a platform for leadership on global environmental policy and enjoys the full involvement of UN organizations, specialized agencies, inter-governmental organizations, civil society and the private sector.
The announcement of the launch was made by Dr. Meshgan Al Awar, Secretary General of Zayed International Prize for the Environment, who led the Zayed Foundation delegation at UNEA 3. Speaking at the press conference, she said, “Sheikh Zayed’s far-sighted vision has led the UAE to adopt an innovative approach to policymaking leading to lasting results in sustainable development and commitment, and continues to impact lives even today. The Zayed International Prize for the Environment, launched almost two decades ago by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is honored to bear the name of this leader who dedicated his life for environmental protection and sustainable development.”
